I've always wanted to keep a sketchbook of music, and last night I finally grabbed a drawing sketchbook and started scribbling stuff down in it.  I've got a few pages of miscellaneous doodles of tunes in it, and I suppose not before long my doodles will begin to organize themselves and take shape.

I'd love to share, but unfortunately I don't have a scanner.  Maybe someday I'll have one.  Or I'll go somewhere with a scanner and happen to have my sketchbook with me, in which case I'll spend hours uploading and cropping.

It sounds kind of odd, but I'm itching to have something to submit and it makes me so sad that I'm not currently commenting on how to read my notations.

Speaking of notations, I use most commonly the five-line staff and numbered cipher, sometimes solfège and letter notation.  But mainly, I end up mixing them.  (Don't worry, if anything should be confusing when I submit something, I'll comment on it.)  Here's a cute Wikipedia article that explains what all these are.  Click.

Unfortunately, all these creative urges are driving me up the wall because I'm supposed to be bolted down in my seat staring at my Microsoft Word trying to figure out how to phrase my author paper on Virginia Woolf.  On that note, I haven't even finished the book I'm supposed to be analyzing ("To the Lighthouse")--but it's too late to worry about that.  So far, I have an extremely rough outline of my essay, half a summary, printouts of literary criticisms, and... that's about it.  I'm not even sure if I have all the sources.

It's due for online submission by 11:59 P.M. on Sunday night.  My gawd.  Is it 3:30 P.M. Saturday already???
